The Best DIY Natural Dry Shampoo Recipe

DRY SHAMPOO

Between washes my hair sometimes needs a little pick me up to reduce shine. I have tried and tested many natural dry shampoos and I eventually started experimenting with my own recipes. Below I share an affordable, non-toxic, and natural way to reduce oil in any hair colour which you can easily make yourself at home!

What you will need:

  • An empty container (I recycled an old jam jar)

  • Makeup brush

  • Cornstarch and/or arrowroot powder

  • Optional powder colourant of choice (ie. bentonite clay, cinnamon powder, cocoa powder, or activated charcoal)

  • Optional essential oil

Recipe

  • Fill container with cornstarch or arrowroot powder (or mix equal parts)

  • Mix approximately a tablespoon in powder colourant of your choice

  • For blondes or colourful hair leave mixture as is

  • For silver hair mix in a tablespoon of bentonite clay

  • For red hair mix in a tablespoon of cinnamon powder

  • For brunette hair mix in a tablespoon of cocoa powder

  • For black hair mix in a tablespoon of activated charcoal

  • Or custom blend your own colour preference

  • Optionally mix in an essential oil of your choice (I have brunette hair and mix orange oil with cocoa for a chocolate orange scent).

  • Test patch an area to ensure for no allergies or reactions

  • Brush on hair, diffuse with fingers, and voila!
