A Journal Practice to Step Out of Your Narrative

Step Out of Your NarrativE

We are the characters of our lives who tell stories from our perspectives. May we remember to step out of our thoughts and narratives to allow space for other perspectives to be considered.

Below is a journal practice you can do by yourself or with others to begin practicing stepping out of your narrative. This practice may seem simple, but it will open up your heart-space and help you grow a little deeper.

Before you begin, grab a pen, your journal, your phone, or whatever you prefer to write with.⁣

Journal Practice

⁣When ready, take a few slow, deep breaths that go down into your core. With your energy centred in this space, begin to write down your answers to the following questions…

1. Ask yourself: in this current chapter of my life, what three positive qualities do I, as my character, possess?

Next, step out of your own story and view you, your character, through the eyes of someone else (this could be a family member, a friend, or loved one).

2. Ask yourself: in this current chapter of my life, what are three positive qualities this person would use to describe me? ⁣

Once you are done the above practices, you can then ask the person what their answers would be.⁣

Reflection Questions

What were the differences in responses?⁣
